Custom Guiding

Season:

Custom guiding is a choose your own adventure that allows us to tailor the day to fit your goals. Climbing has many paths people can take from sport climbing to trad climbing, single pitch cragging to multi-pitch walls. With this option you can work with your guide to get the most out of your day.

With custom guiding you communicate with your guide to determine what a great day will be for you. Whether it's your first time climbing or are looking to take your performance to the next level as you project 5.14's, custom guiding will be a great way to make the most out of your time.

Overview

These days are always focused on your desires and tailored to meet your unique goals. While every day out we seek to educate and climb fantastic routes, these days are usually focused on objective-based climbing or education. Some popular objective-based options include:

  • Sport climbing at Rumney Rocks

    • Clip a Dee Doo Dah (5.3)

    • Metamorphosis (5.8+)

    • Waimea (5.10d)

    • Technosurfing (5.12b)

  • Trad climbing at Cathedral Ledge

  • Alpine rock climbing at Cannon Cliff

  • Exploring other quieter White Mountain climbing areas

    • There are many lesser known, but amazing climbing areas throughout the White Mountains.

Building skills through first hand experience and expert instruction is a great way to learn and Some popular education based options include:

  • Intro to rock climbing

  • Gym to crag

  • Intro to trad climbing

  • Learn to lead sport

  • Learn to lead trad

  • Multi-pitch climbing

  • Rock rescue skills

Climbing Equipment:

  • Helmet

  • Shoes

  • Harness

*You can rent all of this from Peak Ascents free of charge
**All helmets and harnesses must be UIAA certified for climbing use.

Other Gear:

  • Appropriate footwear for hiking on rocky, uneven ground.

  • Athletic clothing that doesn't restrict your movement.

  • Layers for insulation, it can get cold any time of year in the mountains.

  • Rain jacket/pants. While we hope for nice weather, we can often still climb when it's a bit rainy so it's nice to stay dry when walking around.

  • Lunch & Snacks - your body needs food to keep moving.

  • 2+ Liters of water, at least 3 for a hot day.

  • Sunscreen (we recommend SPF 50 or higher).

  • Personal care items such as medications, skin care, etc.

  • Backpack (25-35L) to fit all your gear inside.

Additional gear for multi-pitch climbing:

  • 3 locking carabiners

  • ATC or similar tube style belay device

  • 120cm sling

  • Gloves to belay/rappel
